1st - Christmas Chill
For some people, the church can be a bit like a Tardis: it’s much bigger on the inside than it appears to be from the outside. We know our particular church building, squeezed between York Road and Mount Hermon Road in Woking, is a bit like that. It’s almost invisible from the road but, for those who step inside, there is a whole community which comes together, worships together, supports each other and serves our wider community.
In this series for Advent we want to open some windows so everyone can see a bit more of who we are and what goes on in a church like ours.
As a mother with young children, I find that often the run up to Christmas is more about the hustle and bustle of preparation, and less about an expectant waiting for something revealed. It's an intensely busy period - school plays and fairs, buying and wrapping presents, parties, buying and consuming rich food... So to take a step back for a morning at St Mary's Christmas Chill is a treat. A time to breathe, to relax, to refocus. A time for mindful crafts, some quiet reflection, and a glimpse of the Spirit of the season. This year we're making Christmas wreaths and table decorations and there’ll be an area for making gift tags too. You are most welcome to join us. Bring your friends! Coffee and nibbles provided. Places are limited, so if you’d like to come let Judith know at firstname.lastname@example.org. Materials will be provided but bring along some greenery if you can, and we’ll accept donations to cover costs.
